Ever seen a siren like this?

Tue Jan 01, 2008 5:15 am

I took this from a moving vehicle this afternoon, so apologies for the poor resolution. This is in Athena, Oregon, and it is not a Thunderbeam. The motor is at the bottom and there is some kind of intake tube on top. Some kind of HOR, maybe?

Their main siren downtown appears to be a single-tone Banshee, but I couldn't get a shot or get close enough since I wasn't driving.

By the way, I heard my very first SD-10 today, the noon signal in Pendleton.

It looks like a Federal Signal Thunderbeam

The open cage with the slanted disk tells me its a Thunderbeam.

I'm willing to bet it's a model 5 or a coded model 5.

This is not a Federal Thunderbeam. I have seen a siren almost identical to it, but right now I am drawing a blank on where it was located at. Nonetheless, if you can go back and take a better photo of the siren, it might bring out more resolution, which might help us identify what model it is.

Sincerely yours,

The rotor is at the bottom of the screen and the motor is below it. A Thunderbeam has the motor on top and the rotor is not visible. At first I thought it might be a coded Model 5, except that the screen setup looks like a factory job and not a public works repair project. Unfortunately it is 240 miles away.
