Most residents may not give a crap about which particular sirens we get, but they will care if they can't hear the sirens when there's a bad storm (remember what happened following that tornado in 1999), and many will most definitely care about elected officials wasting over a million dollars that could be better spent elsewhere.

We can't give up. We need to keep making noise about this and keep the media involved. The more closely this deal is watched, the harder it's going to be for the EMA director to get Federal in here. They will do anything they can to prevent the public from knowing the real truth here.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! There were already enough residents who couldn't hear the existing sirens. We don't need their replacement to be a downgrade, unfortunately, most authorities don't come to grips with such decisions until after a tragic loss of life and property. Hopefully they will listen to us before it comes to that.

The most overlooked opportunities are in the learning of and improvement in old technologies.

Bid

Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:03 pm

UPDATE: American Signal stepped up to the plate to play hard ball and came away with the low bid. Federal 2001-130 was $10,008.00 per siren for the first 30 and $10,941.00 for the rest. American Signal came in at $9,074.00 per T-128 siren for the first 30 and the same price for the rest.

I'm assuming for T-128s

Edit:
Apparently I can't see it says right in the post T-128s.

So have they accepted this bid yet? I read in the paper this morning that the bids were once again thrown out yesterday supposedly because they don't have enough money to fund the entire project

Apparently these people don't realize that they may not have any money to fund the project if they keep throwing bids out.

Way to go ASC!!!!!!!!!! Now lets see if they throw together an excuse this time. Michael I think that story was referring to bid #3. Bid #4 closes at the end of the day today.

If they don't accept it, that would be favoritism toward Federal. ASC would be significantly less because it would take less T-128s to cover the area. It would take more than twice as many 2001's to cover the same distance as 60 T-128's

As to the funding issue, how long would ASC be willing to hold that price pending the county getting more funds? It obviously can't be open-ended, but ASC has shown aggressiveness already. Isn't the county smart enough to write a phased contract?

You may have corruption here, but you also have incompetence to deal with and sometimes it's hard to separate the two.

I think we are dealing with both on the EMAs part. We will see what happens.
