I made some last year but I plan to record a different siren site this time. Still deciding which site I want to record.

Try to get a siren that's gonna talk. I'm wondering what it would say.

Record one near Dana Point. I stayed at a hotel just south of there in January and there was a siren right by the pool. I wanted to hear it go off even though i knew that wasn't gonna happen. It is right across the street from the beach so I'm sure it would do voice.

It's only four siren sites in the city of San Clemente ( SC 05, 06, 07, and 08 ) that do the voice alert. Dana Pt and San Juan Capastraino were not listed to do the voice test according to what I read.

Anyway, I picked SC-07 which was located down by the pier.

A woman's voice was used to announce "This is a Test" followed by counting from 1 to 5 then 5 to 1 and a test completed message. DTMF tones could be heard afterward to shut off the amp (if you listen carefully, after the last DTMF, a "pop" could be heard from the speakers)

Pictures to follow

Here are today's pictures.

First is the message signs along the freeways in the area announcing the test . They got it right this year and had the signs closest to the Capistrano, Dana Pt, and San Clemente areas displaying the test message. Last year, all the signs going as far north as Mission Viejo were displaying "Siren Test"

I also got a clear picture of the Thunderbolt 1000 at the north side of the power plant. Unfortunately, it was not sounded.

Has the t-bolt been decomissioned or did it just fail the test?

There was a Whelen located about 100 feet behind me from where I took that picture. I asked some guys in a van from the power plant who were observing the Whelen if the Thunderbolt was still used but they had no idea.
