Best Siren Setup

Sat Jan 23, 2010 12:57 am

In your opinion what city or town do you think the best siren setup is? What kind of sirens do they have? I was just wondering.

Omaha's system of (mostly) T-128's has excellent coverage. On the west side there are a couple 2001's, and the sound doesn't seem to carry as far as the lower-pitched sirens.

Chicago, with the mix of Mods and 2001's. For a city that size they have done a good job of modernization and coverage.

Its a cross between Madison WI (hometown/birthplace), because of the very diverse system, and Reedsburg WI due to the Thunderbolt, 500, and the 3T22's :). Plus they have two 2001's and my homemade Poseidon siren.

Now days any system installed has pretty good coverage, battery back-up and the whole nine yards. So with the exception of systems recently installed, I think
Leavenworth County/Leavenworth City has an excellent system of sirens. They have mostly Thunderbolt 1000(t)s with only a very few 2001s, one Thunderbeam and one Thunderbolt 1003. They have sirens everywhere out in the country (mostly in somewhat populated areas and near rural schools.
Here is a map of the City of Leavenworth. Leavenworth even operates Thunderbolts in Fort Leavenworth. Ft. Leavenworth also has some Mods here and there (which are I assume operated by the Fort.)

LaCrosse, KS has a nice system of SD-10s and 1 2t22.

and Leoti, KS has a nice STH-10 system.

Spring Valley,IL has 3(?) STH-10s. One on their watertower, another in a cemetery up coming into town, and one by their water tower outside of town. They test all of them at 6:00 PM.

I would say that as far as having a clean, uniform, reliable system, Springfield, Illinois with their new system of T-128s wins. There are other systems that I really like too, like Lebanon, Indiana's 20V2Ts or Omaha's T-128s.
