Since this summer, I have been recording sirens just about all the time I could. So far I have 6 successful recordings up on youtube.
My first siren experience that I have on video didn't turn out the way I was expecting it to. The siren is a 2001 SRN located in Hummeltown, PA. It was supposed to go off for the weekly noon blast on Saturdays, but it failed to do so. However, in the background, you can hear a Federal Model A. The video is located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02RI25urWkk
The next Thursday was our Required Annual Siren Test for our nuclear plant, TMI (Three Mile Island). The system is made up of Cyclones, P-10's, and a handful of 2001's. I decided to get a Cyclone on June 25th. I was way to close to it. I was about 80 feet away on top of a hill almost at the level of the siren. I am sure it exceeded 125 dB. It WAS THE LOUDEST sound I ever experienced. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUFOz4MM ... re=channel
Then I took a break. I started back up in August when a P-10 did a short growl. I was recording and recording until I decided I should head back home because it didn't go off. Just in case, I kept the camera on while I was in the parking lot. As I turned it off about 200 feet away from the siren, it growled. I was so mad at myself right then and there.
My family owns apartments in Hershey PA right next to West Hanover FD. They have a Whelen 2804. I decided to get it one afternoon that I was there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPwzmAYl ... re=channel
From then until today, I have been getting a siren every Saturday. The next week I got a STH-10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tbDc8jX ... re=channel
The next week I got a Modulator. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOFz_Rtn ... re=channel
Following the modulator, I got a Model 2. I was told the P-10 would go off, but a hidden Model 2 did. It was hidden in the roof of the FD. I assume the people I spoke to assumed I knew they had a siren in their chimney. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex_XY_X6 ... re=channel
Following that, I got a EOWS 115. That was amazing. I really liked that siren. That is definitely in my top five for sirens that I heard in person (The cyclone is at the top of my list). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrXRMI2d ... re=channel
This leads me up until tomorrow. I haven't decided what siren to record, but I will most indubitably do one.
