So. California fall siren tests

Mon Sep 11, 2006 6:47 am

The City of Huntington Beach tests it's Tsunami warning sirens on the last Friday of this month (Sept 29) at noon. The system consist of electronic speakers at the beachs and 6 Thunderbolts plus 1 2001 located at their fire stations. This is probably one of the few active systems in California using Thunderbolts.

(The Station at 19711 Bushard St has the 2001 so pick any other station if you're looking for a Thunderbolt)

The California Institution for Men will test it's 3 FS 2001 sirens on Friday October 6 arround 12 noon. Tests here can be up to 20 mins of attack signal and the sirens here are very low. Check out the one near Central and El-Prado road since it's the closest one you can get to. Another is visible on top of a guard tower on Central just slightly south of Ecualyptus if you're standing next to the prison's Substation. Be careful as prison personnel may become suspicious if you remain in the area for long periods of time or carry any recording device.

Finally, Southern California Edison's SONGS (San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station) will test it's sirens sometime in the middle of October. I don't have the exact date and time yet but I'll post it when I find out. Last system test was on October 26, 2005 with two alert signals for 3 mins from a period of 10AM to 12Noon. This maybe a good time to get a recording of those custom made sirens for this station which are located throughout San Clemente. :D

I won't be able to record these tests due to classes but I'm hopeing any of you from/in my area will be able record or video tape one of these.[/img]

If I didn't just move over here to Chattanooga, TN (hey, we've got tons of Tbolts around town and a Modulator on the roof of my dorm!!) then I would record those sirens even if I had to risk my life. Used to live a few miles from SONGS but never heard the sirens... quite a safety hazard, eh? ;) But anyways, I never knew Huntington Beach had sirens! Any pix?

Hey, Thanks for the tip! I will try to get down there that day... I have other business in that area, so hopefully I can put it off and take care of that and hear the test together and GET OUT of there by 12: 30PM to escape the rush hours (note that it's plural).

I might try to scope out several of them to see which one is best to film.

Thanks, Charles

That looks like an easy-to-access location! But with Local.Live being a few years old, I wonder if there's now a monsterous building on that construction site behind the fire station? If not, then it looks like you'd be at a perfect vantage point in that industrial complex with the 2-lane driveway :P

Othewise, the road in front of the FS would do.

This T-bolt appears to be in a private house's backyard  But I guess that is a fire house.

Anyone know if any of those T-bolts in H. Beach are Duo tone?
