Calhan, CO gets a "tornado" warning....

Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:19 am

So... at 5:45 PM, Mike Daniels on News First says some reports of 'cold air funnels' were reported 5 miles SW of Calhan, near Judge Orr rd and Ellicott Hwy. Four minutes later, an officer on-duty caught the report over his scanner and sounded our siren. I sounded my siren one minute later, in Attack.
At 1:30, you can hear my siren in attack. 1:40, the 550AT starts up again.

3 minute all-clear siren. The COWS1024S does NOT sound an all-clear.

UPDATE: There was indeed a funnel cloud spotted about six miles south of Calhan. Location: Judge Orr rd and Yoder road. The outflow from it's parent storm pushed the funnel back up into the storm moments later, as it was on a northerly track for Calhan.

Shows the funnel cloud being impinged by cold outflow air.
Still close enough to a Fed Sig 550AT to drive out on test day: First Friday in May - 7PM!
As of April 15 2010, a certified NWS Skywarn Spotter.
