News coverage on new Dallas, Tx sirens going up

Mon May 04, 2009 2:56 am

Good to see that Dallas is filling in the gaps with more sirens, and on concrete poles.

Excellent move on their part, good to see that they have their citizen's safety as a top-priority, unlike here in Tennessee. :?

Fort Worth has the system of Whelens. Dallas has mostly Thunderbolts and 2001s I believe.

Dallas has/d a system of around 100 FS Thunderbolts. I have heard something about a Modulator/electronic for a flood siren, though I don't know if this is true. I have noticed that one or two old Tbolt sites were replaced with older 2001's some time ago. (Like the 2001 at Dallas Executive Airport).

Like Indianapolis, the system is being upgraded to 2001-130's.

Are all Dallas sirens on the spun concrete poles? This is great that they are using these types of poles cause it would take a serious act of god to move one of those types of poles!!

I'm visiting in Dallas and I saw a brand new 2001. It very well could have been planted early this week. It still doesn't have an electric meter in the meter base. It is located on a concrete pole along Wycliff Ave. at Dickason.

The poor old single tone Thunderbolt behind the fire station on Cedar Springs at Reagan has, unfortunately, never been very impressive. Until I heard it, I didn't realize that Thunderbolts were not all dual tone. Personal opinion only: something just isn't right about a Thunderbolt that doesn't make that doomsday sound.

I'll bet that new 2001 rattles the windows though. Regrettably, I won't be around to hear it on test day next month.

It takes a serious crane truck to set one also. The spun concrete pole we mounted the 2t22 on weighed over 4400 pounds.

How much do the spun concrete poles go for?
