Do the short and long horns really make a difference, because they really look ugly. The older ones had all long horns.

It looks to me like the larger horns are simply removable extensions bolted to the shorter horns, and in this case some of the extensions were removed to alternate the horn size. Perhaps the city decided to make this modification themselves before installing it?

Hey Daniel, what type of electronic sirens are at the AFB?
I don't remember what was at the AFB, but I may have seen a Whelen of one kind or another. When I lived in Omaha, they only tested on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00.
Nowadays as of 2017, we test on the First Wednesday of the month at 11 AM. But at the start of the year in March on the First Saturday at 11 and 11:30 we do a visual test. However, Sarpy and other surrounding counties still run them on the First Saturday at 10.

Its now been 9 and a half years since the meat of this post has been posted on. I now bring to light information of Omaha's siren systems in 2018. There is only one old civil defense siren still alerting among the t128s and 2001s of the county. The rest of the old xt22s have been taken off the system. The xt22s that stand have unknown fates. Those sirens are Bennington VFD's xt22s, (standing next to 2001s) which have been taken out of service due to complaints from the public, and the xt22 behind the Ralston fire station, where there is now a t128 next to it. The remaining CD siren is a tbolt 1000 at the valmont plant. There is an STH 10, Model 5, and STL 10 that are used for firecalls for local VFDs, but they are not part of douglas county's system. The Boys Town 3t22s are long gone, replaced by a singular 2001-130, and a county t128.
As for the p10s and p15s up and around Ft Calhoun, those are long gone. Those sirens were part of a warning system for the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Station, which is now being decommissioned. The Missouri River flooded in 2011, killing all the sirens in the valley (by flooding the controls) along with flooding the plant. Omaha Public Power District decided to replaced all the sirens with 2001-130s. There are no remaining sirens from the old system. It is unknown what will be done with the sirens when the plant is done needing them, only time will tell.
Sarpy county is the only place with old CD sirens now in the Omaha metro. We have xt22s. STH 10s, an SD 10 and a tbolt (with a bad radio). The rest of the sirens in Sarpy county are 2001s of some sort.
Council Bluffs (CB) has a system entirely made up of 2001s. I am not sure how many, if any, were killed by the same river floods back in 2011, but the system is made up of 2001s, mostly SRNs and DCs, with a few 130s in newer areas.
Addressing a few things mentioned in the thread. The Tbolt on the Mutual of Omaha Building is gone, there is now a brown t128 a block away. Ralston never had model 5s, they have 2001 SRNs. The electronic sirens at Offutt AFB are whelens of some sort.

There is probably information I missed, but I hope this information can get you all up to date.

There's actually 4 2001s in Boys Town now. Where is that Model 5 for a VFD, Daniel? All I knew of was the STL 10 and a STH10.. Interesting.
