Early Fedelcode/Federal Electric Model 5/7?

Fri Jun 30, 2023 8:00 am

Aloha everybody. A few months ago, I discovered what appears to be a very early Model 5/7 variant. It’s located on Bellows Air Force Base in the town of Waimānalo, on the Island of O’ahu. The siren has been abandoned for quite some time. It’s replacement… an ATI, stands several dozen feet away. Now at first glance, it definitely resembles a Fedelcode. However after viewing this siren in person, the housing appears to be much wider than a standard Federal/Fedelcode 5/7. It appears to be very similar to the early Federal Electric type 5/7’s in Federals old ads/flyers. The siren may very well date back to the WW2 era, as Bellows was an active airfield during the war. It appears to be 3 phase, as an old steel flex with three cores is visible hanging from the siren. It’s original coat of “CD Yellow” is still visible too! Could this really be an early Federal Electric variant of the Model 5/7? My apologies in advance for the trees blocking the siren in the photos below, it’s been abandoned for quite some time. Any input about this old siren would be greatly appreciated!

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but based on your description, it's likely a Model 20. There are still a few units up and running, likely a few more that have been overlooked. Aside from the chopped up housing, I'm surprised how well it's held up. Cool find

Thanks for the info! After looking at that flyer, it’s most likely a Model 20 judging by the width of it’s housing. It really is massive in person! Any idea on the available port ratios for the Model 20? I’m guessing this one is an 8 port but who knows!
