Bourbonnais Siren Discovery

Wed Oct 24, 2007 10:09 pm

So today I figured while I was out by the post office, I'd go on a little siren hunt. There's a park about a mile south of the post office and the nearby RSH10 that I know is just out of range of any known siren. As I came into the park, my curiousity had paid off. Standing right by the park's entrance was a 3T22. Here's the pic I snagged with my phone.

I would have taken more but there were these two old fat lady's that had nothing better to do than watch my every move. I figured if they saw me get out of the car and start taking pictures of a tornado siren, they'd give the cops a call and report me or something. I'll try to get more later with a better camera. Also, here's a map of our system.

As of now, Bourbonnais has a T-1003, 2 RSH10s, an STL/H10, and a 3T22. There is likely a 2001 on the NW side of town near the Bon Vivant Country Club but I haven't been able to fine it. Also, Bradley has 2 2002DCs and a T-1000T and (S)Kankakee has 6 2001SRNBs. Anywho, I thought I'd share.

I wonder why they never made an RSL-10. I imagine it may be possible with the use of a different stator/rotor combination from an STL-10.

Do you have the locations or a map of the sirens in Bradley or Kankakee?

Here's a map that shows all of Kankakee's and Bradley's sirens. I know that Sun River Terrace has like 4 2001s and I have no clue about what Aroma Park has.

All together, I think there are like forty-something sirens in Kankakee County, all Federal Signal.

Okay so...I found yet another siren. I'm not sure exactly it is though but it's near by friend's house on the north side of Bourbonnais and it's appearently yellow. I don't have class or anything to do until 4:30 tomorrow so I think I might take a walk up there to see what we're looking at.

I just got back from finding yet another 3T22. I couldn't find my digital camera so I just used my phone again to take these.

Notice how the power box is open in this pic. I don't know what that's all about, but the power box is still in the "on" position. I may give a call to the Bourbonnais Police who runs the sirens and let them know it's open.

On my way back onto campus, I snapped another picture of the 1003 which happens to be right above one of my classrooms.

Here's an updated map of out system. I'm pretty sure that this is all we have.

Image

Here's a list of all of the locations in town.
T-1003 - Burke Administration Building at Olivet Nazarene University
RSH10 - Cornell Dr. near Meadows Rd. N.
RSH10 - Marcotte Park (Main St. NW. near Plum Creek Dr.
3T22 - River Front Park/Cavalier de LaSalle Park (end of Canterbury Dr.)
3T22 - Latham Park (N West Ave. near Kristina Dr.)
STL/H-10 - St. Paul Dr. near Apple Ln. (NW corner of mobile home park)

What surprises me about our system is that we still have all of our original CD sirens while just about everywhere else in the county has upgraded to 2001s. What makes this wierd is that Bourbonnais is doing the best economically of any town in the county. Kankakee is like really run down and they have a pretty good system of all 2-way 2001SRNBs.
However, Bourbonnais is supposed to replace their 1003 sometime in the near future with a MOD6048.

What about the area NW of State Highway 50 & Armour Rd? Is that a Housing area or some sort of industrial park.
Also, Thanks for the locations.

Yeah it's basically just an open area with a small plant and a power substation. It's technically property of Bourbonnais Township and not the Village of Bourbonnais. The 1003 carries well there, but I would like to see another siren installed next to the power substation along Armour Rd. Or what I've been thinking is they could restore and put up the 1003 there when it's removed from campus.
