There is a 1950s film titled "The Day Called 'X'" which has footage of Chrysler sirens rotating. I'm not sure if the sound is accurate or not. Anyway, it was made to show how an evacuation should work if the city of Portland, Oregon was under nuclear attack.

I love how whenever they have someone talking about the H-bomb that's on the way, the screen shows "THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK," since apparently it was televised. It's a good look at how serious this was at the time.

A video of this will a holy grail, the second runner-up being a Video of a HOR Super Sirex in action.

It's a damned shame that Portland got rid of every single siren they had. All that's left is a little single-head Sterling M5 in West Linn.

Is it true that ACA (Biersach & Niedermeier) (sic?) designed the square-horned Hurricane before Federal Electric came out with the Thunderbolt? Is the T-bolt actually a copy of the Hurricane?

That's apparently how it goes according to rumour. Whether it's true or not we might never know. Release dates would be an indicating factor to whether Fed. Sig. played hardball or not. You'd think that ACA would have sued?
What's even more interesting is the lack of patents specific to either the Hurricane or Thunderbolt, that I can find at least.

According to a friend of mine that used to install sirens for Whelen. He says that the last time he was in Cheboygan County, Michigan in 2005. He saw an ACA 130 Hurricane. At first, he thought it was a T-Bolt, but upon closer inspection with a pair of binoculars, he concluded that it was indeed a Hurricane.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.
