I'm going to disney world sometime next june, and I was wondering if there are any sirens in the area, and if there are, what are the test times?

I was there last year, and I don't recall seeing any Sirens in the area.
There is a type of Siren at Universal Studios, I don't think it works, just for show. It's got four yellow horns, and a large control box saying 'Air Raid Monitor' on it.

There is a picture of it on the Siren Archive!

Someone from the old board said disney world has modulators, but that they are well hidden.

I heard Cedar Point had Whelens and that Valleyfair had a Sentry.

Actually Cedar Point doesn't have Whelens. There is, however, a Federal 2001SRNB along the road that goes into Cedar Point not far from the dorms, hotel, and fire station.

I actually saw that siren while we were heading toward Cedar Point. I think it was a 2001-130.
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

We're talking about Disneyland in Florida, yes?

I'll be going there and to Knott's Berry Farm (among many other places) on this US exchange trip in December/January so if I see any, I'll take photos and a few more of this 'air raid monitor'. Anyone got an idea of where it's located?

I'll be based in Washington State, and I'll be touring around Los Angeles as well, so I might be able to get a few. Hopefully I can find at least one in the three weeks that I'm there.

When I was at Cedar Point's Police Station back in 1984, they did have a Whelen tone encoder in their radio room. I asked the Captain who was on duty what encoder was for, and he said it was used to activate their outdoor warning sirens (WS-2000-16). He went on to say that they were very disappointed with the Whelen's PA/Voice quality, since it sounded so distorted when they made announcements.

They must have removed those sirens at some point, as they are not there anymore. I found one of them disguised to blend into with the trees.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

"When your siren's a failin', chances are it's a Whelen."
