Nice photos. Thanks.

Why the wind sock? Is there a helicopter landing pad nearby?
Has it anything to do with stacking cargo containers?

Why the compressor on the pole rather than ground?
Is snow drifting an issue?

Thank you

I would guess the wind sock is for a helicopter

I think the reason for the compressor being halfway up the pole is so it won't be messed with. where as the one on the golf course is slightly hidden and fenced in.

I was looking for the T-bolt that was a the FD, but that's gone. But I saw this that was painted to match the tower.

Can anyone figure this one out?

I found my First Detroit Thunderbeam this sunday.
I pulled in next to the fire station, and a FireFighter was outside.
I asked If i could take pic's of the siren. He say sure. But if you want to get better pic's, i'll take you to the roof. I said sure!!!
We walked past the two fire engines and up two flights of stairs, into the workout/bathroom, thru a door the up another three flights of 1 1/2 foot wide stairs and onto the roof. I guess the skinny stairs was to the top of the hose drying tower, that is where the siren sits.
Out front it says. Ladder 18, Engine CO. 44 Battalion 8. this station is on 7 mile near John R. RD. The Firefighter was LT. Al Robinson.

Firehouse
Pic taken standing on the air conditioner on the roof
Pic taken from the street
I looks like it's almost new, Wonder if this one was a replacement one?

I asked if I could see the controls, but he said they were in the basement and I didn't ask to see them, but I didn't want to take up all of his time.

The as I went futher down 7 mile I saw another thunderbolt.
It's on the Ameritech building at 7 mile and Rayn Rd.
I thought I took a picture of the whole building, but I guess I didn't.
I wonder why it has only two guide wires on it?

The Berlin Twp. Siren looks like an old Federal Lion. The village of Grass Lake, Michigan has a single rotor siren that is directional towards the east, which is mounted on top of the old fire station. It looks like half of the siren you have photos of.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.
