Informational Blurb:
The Vortex series originally had 2 products, the VortexR and the VortexO, R standing for rotational, O for Omnidirectional. Tone-Only 2800 series heads sold were known as the VortexO, and came in 3 sizes, 2, 3, and 4 cell. When the 2900 series came out, Whelen decided to drop the VortexO "series" and give the Tone-Only Omni's it's own product name, the OmniAlert. Below are some links to product sheets to show that the VortexO does in fact exist, as I've discovered that many people call these 2800 heads with tone-only panels, OmniAlerts, which is incorrect.

Recorded 6/21/18
Today I decided to take a short drive over to Belmont to record one of their two Whelen VortexO2s. This one is located at the fire house a mere 4 blocks away from the one I previously recorded at Ken Leahy Memorial Park by the water tower. Given that the sound comes out in all directions at once, I would have to say that this was louder than the Hornet that I recently recorded (Theoretically it should be). The hissing noise was very loud in person and was very noticeable. Belmont's sirens sound daily at noon M-F.
