New sirens; Columbia IL

Columbia IL is a small community and is in the far southeast corner of the St Louis metro area near route 3 and I 255. For as long as I can remember they've had 2 old model 5s and an STH10 for a siren system. The system only covered maybe 1/2 the population of Columbia as the system was never expanded as the community grew. Just last Monday I noticed a new Whelen 2910 at their public works yard which is 3/4 of a mile from one of the model 5 sirens. Does anyone know if they are replacing or expanding their siren system?

I live in the St. Louis metro area and just saw your post and familiar with Columbia's old sirens. So I went online and found out that the City of Columbia purchased 5 new sirens, strategically placed so that 100% of the city has siren coverage, whereas the old system, installed in the 1960's, consisted of 3 sirens with 9% coverage. They activate the new sirens at noon and 6 PM every day, using the Westminster Chimes tone.

So the old Model 5s and 1 STH10 will not be part of the warning system then? Just noon and 6 whistles? A very good thing they expanded coverage either way. They certainly needed it. The Whelans should serve them well.

Actually reread that and it says the new ones will be used as noon and 6 whistles. Sorry, haven't had coffee yet.
