Has anyone heard a siren or have a recording of a siren doing the yelp tone. Please, tell me as I had never seen a video or heard one in real life on yelp signal (the broken Soundmaster 115 don't count). Also, some please explain me how a siren does yelp tone. Thank you.

I thought that yelp tones only applied to electronic police sirens, not to outdoor civil defense sirens. But I could be wrong. You can download a police yelp tone here:

I think he is referring to the rumor that some Allertors had the ability to do a yelp tone by briefly reversing the motor polarity. I do not think there was ever any physical evidence of one in the wild though...

The only way I can think of making a siren do a Yelp tone is by:
A. Reversing the polarity of the motor, which spins it in the either direction, until the siren stops, or
B. Shorting out the input wires, which will cause the motor to halt. (Do NOT do this, unless the power is cut to the motor.)
I don't know if this info is accurate with AC motors, but it will likely work with most DC motors. Blue10AEMia (Jeb) will likely be able to provide more info.

And also, I stand with Chicagosiren-hunters with the ACA thing. Maybe Justin can shed some more light on this?
