Federal Signal Eclipse 8 same as Eclipse NH but with horns?

Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:25 pm

Does the 8 signify number of ports?
NH = no horns? No horns is 107 dBC
Eclipse 8 is 115 dBC.

Why no horns?
Thank you,

You're correct!

One of the Eclipse-series siren models has no horns because Federal Signal wants to expand on a series; this results in various-range models without having a separate main frame for every model within the series. With the Eclipse series, you could also remove the horns for a smaller-range siren instead of having to buy one.

Thanks Peter.
Why not have it as loud as possible?
Are the horns expensive?

Well, if you want a small-range siren, I guess that you don't want unintended areas to hear the siren. However, if you want to increase the audible range of the siren, you may add horns to it if feasible.

Yes! I would think you want as much dB/buck as possible, considering the projectors shouldn't cost that much more than the siren alone.
But they probably charge a fortune - as much as they can possibly get away with - for the projectors.
I'd look for my own horns.
But they probably make their openings slightly too large or too small so only their projectors will fit.

by the time you measured, designed and fabricated your own horns you'd wish you had just bought 'em.

Yes.
But I'd hope to find something already made for outdoor P.A. systems.
But they are probably too small a neck from the driver.
I'd have to cut them where they reach a larger crossection.
Then how do you attach?

I think having horns would be an option just like a third signal. The 2T22 would only be a 3T22 with shutters, so only people who needed them would order them that way. I would not overkill a purchase if it was not needed. If you can save some extra money by not getting pointless horns (because you don't need them) then that would be a nice option. Although this is mostly a opinion based answer.

To find something already made the opening has to match, the bolt-holes have to match or be re-worked, and the flare ends can't run into each other. Never happen. Just order it with the projectors.

Once you choose a siren, you want it to give you everything it can. What's the difference in price, anyway? Including the projectors in the original order is always going to be cheaper than later.
