The Siren Board

As we all know, prisons have sirens and so do other government facilities such as military bases, the Pentagon, etc. I am questioning whether it would be feasible for institutions for the mentally ill or people with disabilities to have siren systems in case of escape, etc.? If sirens are at institutions, where might some examples be located? I have only heard of a few having sirens, but I do not know of any specifics, save for Broadmoor's system.

The State Hospital in Carstairs, Scotland has 9 10/12 (Klaxon CS8s and GP12s) port sirens around the vicinity of the hospital. I made a map, But I am unsure how to post it from Google Earth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmZI1k4DD4g

Denton State School has an active 3t22. Runs in alert for tornadoes, probably does hi-lo for escapees and intruders.

I'll chime in with Broadmoor which has 13 sirens in a more or less circle around it. All are expected to be replaced by 2018 by Klaxon's electronic equivalents in only 6 locations (I believe it will be Klaxon replacing them). The sirens are Secomak/Klaxon CS8 sirens, of which almost all are not functioning correctly as of present.

Man you beat me to it! I love the Broadmoor system. Those CS8s are neat units. One of a kind. How close was Klaxon/Secomak with Carter/Gents of Leicester?

Well Secomak (which was later Klaxon), Gent's of Leicester, Carters of Burnley and Castle Castings were close in competition from what I've seen. Mainly Gents' and Carters were in competition then. Sirens during the Second World War were mainly made by Gent's and had big, long motors and large stators. Some airfields had the large Gent's tri-tone sirens as well (and believe me, they are long... almost a full metre!). Carters of Burnley sirens were there, and a small crop of Castle Castings and Secomak sirens were in between.
During the Cold War there were more Klaxon (who were Secomak during the war and called their sirens "syrens") and Castle Castings sirens being installed with stator heaters and so on. at the start of the Cold War some of the long Gents' sirens had dampers installed, or were installed with them, to signal a fallout warning. The signal was dropped a couple years later I believe. As the old Gent's sirens aged, Civil Defence had sirens added around them which had better coverage and were more efficient than their predecessors.

Terrell State Hospital in Terrell, Texas has an SD-10 and a 2T22. I'll try to google image it.
