UK Flood Sirens used for real today

Mon Jun 25, 2007 4:35 pm

The flood warning siren in Lough, Lincolnshire was used for real for the first time in decades today, as can be seen in this BBC report. Lincolnshire has 46 flood sirens across its county, and I'm guessing by the flooding that's hit across this country this wasn't the only town that would've had to use them.

(BBC report clips are amended and updated regularly but siren was in report at 25th June 16:00 GMT)

Creepy!
It would be cool if it was sounding during that Funnel Cloud!
Shame about that chap who drowned, it was a wash of rain here too!

They should be glad they have sirens.

The South Lake Tahoe, Calif. area has a major forest fire burning right now. 165 homes destroyed, and less than 5 percent of the fire contained as of this moment.

I bet they'll get interested in buying sirens after this. Oakland did after the 1991 fire storm.

Here is a better video, as the first seems to have been removed or changed:

I saw coverage of this on ABC, which has a BBC segment overnight. Bad. The funnel cloud made one UK Newspaper Front page.

Texas is also having flooding, while both US coasts are drier than normal.

Yes. we get tornadoes quite frequently. As far as I can remember we have had tornadoes... perhaps not the same intensity/frequency of tornado alley but tornadoes all the same.
