Miniature Dual Tone Air Raid Siren

Tue Nov 08, 2016 7:44 am

Hi Guys,

The little mini dual tone air raid siren is working and I have posted a video of it on YouTube. I still have to make a case for it to both isolate the brushless electric motor noise and to make it a nice finished project.

Using a reduction drive and an adjusting the throttle end point it spins between 2,800 to 2,900 rpm. I will eventually fit and program an Ardiuno to control the siren instead of my RC plane transmitter. That will smooth the tone curve.

I did run it at a direct drive to the motor which spins at around 13,000 rpm. At that speed it is deafening at 115.1 decibels!

It has taken about two weeks to make and this is a precursor to making a full size siren to replicate the World War 2 siren used in England.

I would recommend using a brushed DC motor to power the siren. No PWM noise, no need for a reducer. Just a low enough voltage and you're good to go.
I love Yamaha Music Sirens.
