Atlanta Trip Sirens (Picture heavy!)

Fri Jul 10, 2015 2:32 am

Recently took a trip to Atlanta, these are the sirens on the way, in, and on the way back from, Atlanta.

Denver Siren and Whelen WPS-4008 in Friendsville, TN
Went out of our way because I wanted to see a WPS-4008 fro the first time. Got lucky when I saw the Denver there as well. Got even luckier when they growled the Denver for me. Got EVEN luckier when they rotated the 4008 for me. Videos should be up soon:

A better view of the neat logos:

Whelen WPS-2810 in Kennesaw, GA
This is the first siren in GA we stopped at. We were on our way to the Kennesaw WS-1000, and I decided we could take a detour to see this one.

Whelen WS-1000 in Kennesaw, GA
Thought it would be neat to see this little guy, which is essentially loudspeakers on a pole. :p Still a cool siren.

T-121 in Duluth, GA
we were on our way to do some tubing in the Chattahoochee River, and saw this new-ish T-121. A near by police officer gave me some odd looks while I was taking pictures, and I was in my swimming trunks. XD

Second T-121 in Duluth:
Basically the same deal here, this one is a bit closer to the actual city of Duluth.

Thor Guard siren in Stone Mountain Park, GA
This is one of two Thor Guard sirens i saw in Stone Mountain Park. There is one other I didn't see, but is on the Atlanta siren map.

Siren:

Thor guard siren in Stone Mountain Park #2
Here is the second one. This one is located on top of a building that is on the peak of the mountain itself.

STH-10 and Vortex in Smyrna
Saw this pair while passing Smyrna to get to another siren.

So, there would be pictures of a Vortex and WS-1000 pair in Smyrna, but they didn't get uploaded, and I cleared the SD Card. Sorry! :c

Vortex in Decatur
I actually recorded this siren going off for a test after taking these. Hopefully that video will be up soon.

iForce STi-1600 in Kennesaw
Here's one of the iForces on the KSU campus. Neat to see one in person for the first time. (Not as big as I thought though. :P)

This Vortex is very close to the iForce, by a Waffle House.

508 siren in Chatanooga, TN
Finally saw my first 508! This was pretty exciting to see in person. It is part of the Sequoyah Nuclear Generating Station siren system. This one replaced a Thunderbolt.

So that was my trip! I had a lot of fun seeing new types of sirens for the first time, and all around had a great time visiting Atlanta! Thanks for viewing!

Those have to be the best pictures I've ever seen of the Federal Building Tbolt.

There's absolutely no way it is. The building was topped off in 1978, which was the year the thunderbolt was installed, and the building opened in 1980. It was actually only 11 years old when it was disconnected.

Oh. I had always heard it was a jailbar. Huh, guess I'll change that.

Here is an article on that 4008. This thing has an older ESC-864. I'm dying to hear this thing run.

Well, DJ, thanks for reminding me! I forgot to put pictures of the 4008 controls! They have been added.

Nice pictures, especially of the Tbolt in Atlanta! Much better than my pictures that I took using my iPhone 4 through a telescope  It seems to have rotated since I was last there, most likely from the wind (as seen in the picture below).

Fun mods to that 4008. Looks to me like amp 8 is missing which strikes me as odd. Given the controller I'll betcha it sounds 465 hz alert.
