Chinese Siren Distributor In Indiana?

Thu May 17, 2007 6:21 am

I was checking over the auction pages on eBay, and found these interesting sirens manufactured by Lion King:

Out of all of these units, I would pick the dual-tone version, as its better at attracting the attention of the residents in any area. I wonder if the Chinese feel there is a rather strong market for their sirens in North America?

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

Now that the Chinese model 2 look alike is being sold here in America from an American distributor, Federal can take a chunk out of their butts and sue them for copyright violations (if the siren is similar to a model 2 on the inside, which it most likely is). Federal has also had a problem with other Chinese companies copying their light bars and other emergency equipment. It will be interesting to see what happens, though as of now they really don't pose a threat to Federal Signal.

There's interesting issues there. Are the Model 2 -5-7 series patents still valid after all these years? Patents are good for seventeen years but there's all sorts of stuff with renewals. They may not be valid anymore. There's lots of prior art in the "chicken feeder" design, and a rotor/stator is a rotor/stator.

As for the light bars, there's a dead ringer for the Street Hawk from an outfit called Orchid Radio in Taiwan. I wondered at one point if Federal was importing them and marketing them here instead of Orchid copying them.

The dual-tone siren has twelve ports on each end. Does this imply that one of the rotors has less ports, and if so, how does this affect the efficiency of the output?

That "Model 2" is an exact copy, at least in terms of the housing. Someone is Indiana is gonna get sued!

I wonder if this seller bought these from a US Customs auction... Maybe they got seized for patent violations already, and now here they are. $6900 is a bit stiff for the xT22 copy, I think. There are copies in Asia of just about everything we ever engineered here in the USA, and I doubt if many of those copies have EVER been licensed nor authorized...

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)

If its a exact model 2 Copy wonder If I could get a outer Shell
for like $75.00 instead of Federal Part price of about $315.00 :?:

I would be a quick fix for my #2 less any CD decal.

Not bad for a New Years Show model , bet the China one in real
outdoor use rusts out sooner

That would be a bit hard to say; they are ISO9001 and CE certified and their sirens are water-resistance rated to IP44...it probably wouldn't be that bad.

Well, at least theirs are interesting compared to what we have mostly, Whelens and 2001's.

I think it's 20 years before one has to seek renewals.
What makes it even more interesting is that the identification plate on this siren is almost exactly the same as the one used by Federal Signal, though the Model A that I repaired had a similar badge, but with 'Wailing Joe' instead of Federal Signal. Need a higher resolution shot.

Hmm, maybe one day I might be able to buy out Federal Signal
