Aurora, CO 11 a.m. test finally occurs at 11:18 One fails

Tue May 15, 2007 6:26 pm

The one siren I staged to video did not operate!!!

The (completely?) solar-powered Whelen 3016 at I-225 and Mississippi failed to sound.
Aurora Fire Dept. truck #8 was parked in the Best Buy parking lot to monitor the siren.

Siren is north side of Mississippi, east side of I-225 (in center of aerial photo.)

When the other sirens began their "Whoop" ALL CLEAR signal, it briefly "burped" a sound. The horn also very slightly turned right 2 degrees.

Dead batteries?

Maybe the weather was gray, and there wasn't enough sunlight to charge the batteries.

That is taken into account when the system is designed.
The batteries are to store and keep an operational charge over enough time that the siren will still work even after many gray days.
They're supposed to charge even in gray weather.

Denver has many sunny days.

I'll ask what the problem was.
