Rotatiller siren

Fri May 11, 2007 9:02 pm

Would it be possible to take a rotatiller and take the rotor out, then make two stators and two rotors, kick it up to 15000 RPM and get a sound?

just thought I'd ask.

It would be kind hard due to the way the tiller tranny is geared although you could get a slow sound out of it. Not to mention how the splines are mounted.

Maybe, but it would be extremely inefficient.

Not only inefficient, but also dangerous at 15,000 RPM!

You would be better off trying that idea on a old bench grinder.

I say, you should get a motor. make a stator. and then get a circular (it HAS to be circular. i think) piece of metal, cut 5 holes (if wanted single tone) or 5 holes on top and 4 holes on bottom (if wanted dual tone) and make holes (the same way) on a smaller peice of metal and stick it inside.
(attached to the motor, of course) Turn the motor on and see what happens. If you wanna make a better one then I probably desrcibed. go to civildefencemuseum.com and see Eric's "Mini Thunderbolt Project"

I don't know of a soul on this board that doesn't know of the Mini-T. It's one of the finest bits of engineering I've ever seen. (Or heard in person!)
