P-50 to be Replaced by New AC/DC T-135

Tue May 08, 2007 1:44 pm

THis Siren is being replaced. The building it sat on Caught fire and is not being rebuilt. NO the siren did not burn but the controlls did. The City Wauwatosa WI decided it was too much money to move it. SO they are going to put a new T-135 AC/DC on a pole close by. What is to happen to the old P-50? who knows. Install date late June or July of 2007

He'd need a crane to move the thing...it would be too heavy and cumbersome to take it down the stairs/elevator.

What if you dismantled it and took it apart, then could it be taken down the stairs? There is a community out there that could really use a siren but can't afford a new one!
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

That would be good, a single-point warning, that'll warn a whole town. But didn't she want battery backup?

Can't it be disassembled into manageable parts - except the motor stator assembly.

I removed the top and bottom rotor intake tubes of the 2t22.
Before bolting to the platform, I attached the lower tube to the tripod. That caused the legs to be perfectly aligned.
Then we wrestled the []=[] midsection onto the level tube flange and bolted it on. Then I bolted the top tube/raincap |=>to the midsection.
The only thing I did not want to do is remove the stators and rotors from the motor. I was afraid they may not go back together exactly as removed and there may be balance/clearance problems.

I don't get why they just don't get new controls. It say on ASC's website they can still supply parts for sirens built since 1981. Didn't the P 50 come into production in 81 or around that area?

Yes. They really should do that, and save a fortune.
But that may require thought and they may be afraid they'll hurt themselves.

The cost for new controlls and to move it would probley coast the same as a new T-135. And were would I put the beast I don't think I could stuff it into the garage
