Picked up a Thunderbolt from Indianapolis,

Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:55 am

I finally got my T-bolt from Indy today. It's been a long process but she's finally here. I'd like to thank Adam P. for some helpful hints and the City of Indianapolis and Marion County for letting me have it. It was siren #910 and was removed from it's pole almost 2 years ago. A 2001-SRNB was put in it's place a few blocks away. All of the other T-bolts and Model 5's are being junked by Federal. But here are the pics of the thing, some are from last spring and some are from today

Here is a pic of the top to a Model 5. It blew off of the siren last year during a storm and was found a block from the actual siren location.

We walked around downtown for a while and here is a pic I got of Indy's tallest siren. 18 stories up at 11 S. Meridian.

2001?

Nice Thunderbolt! Good to see that some are surviving the storm of innovation :)

Very good job, Matt! A few years back, getting even a smaller siren was a big deal. Now, allot of us own a Thunderbolt!

Single or dual tone? Looks like you forgot the standpipe flange to

Awesome Matt! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!

I still hold history at being the first person to ship a T-bolt head by UPS! Eric can tell you.

Ok, several things.

Yes the siren in Downtown is a 2001-SRNB. It was one of only 2 2001's in downtown. Now there will be only 2001's.

Yes the flange is still on the rest of the standpipe in Indianapolis. The standpipe is stored inbetween a shed and a garage. I've got the piece of standpipe that was attached to the rotator box.

It's a duel-tone unit. If I remember right all of the 2001's in Indy are 1000-T's or 1003's.

It was a nice find, and I was very lucky to get it. Now starts the process of restoration.

Matt,
I saw that building last weekend when I was downtown, but missed the siren. What a nice place that would be for a T-135!

Any of those 1003's still up for grabs?

As far as I know all of the other sirens are being disposed of by Federal. They don't want to give them to just people because they don't know what we'll do with them. And they don't want to give them to communities in need. What happens is that say an old T-bolt from Indy makes it's way to a small community like Farmland. Now Farmland fixes it up but a piece in the blower breaks. So they contact Federal wanting a replacement and Federal no longer makes parts for T-bolts. So those communities get angry and give Federal a bad name. Atleast that's how it was explained to me. My T-bolt was already in the process of disposal by the EMA for the past 2 years and therefore still belonged to the county. The other T-bolt's, Model 5's, SD-10's, and T-beam's will become the property of Federal once they are replaced by a new 2001-130. And Federal will dispose of them.
