Federal Model PL-Questions

Hi, I'm new here. I just (rather blindly LOL!) bought a Federal Model PL siren. It looks exactly like a Model L except the projector horn tapers a bit and has a grille over the end. Does anyone know anything about this siren? Does it sound like a Model L? I can't find anything about it online at all. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't know this for a fact, but the PL was roughly the same as the PD. these sirens had a little damper inside the intake cone to produce the classic "wah wah" sound. If this is incorrect information I apologize.

This is correct.
This isn't a video of a PL, but it shows what it will do when you run it. The video doesn't do justice to how effective the damper is.

Thank you for the answers! What is the intended use for this siren? Was it just a wailing version of a model L for fire calls, emergencies etc. or was it a law enforcement vehicle siren?

It's particular use is kind of vague. You can put it on a pole and warn a tiny town with it, put it in an industrial area as a fire alarm, put it on top of your house for making your neighbor mad, scare people with it, even put it on a truck if it's a 12 volt version.

Really, it's got the same uses as a regular Model L, it's just got a different intake system.
