How about some vintage siren photos?

I probably posted this one 5467546754 times, but it is my favorite nonetheless. It was taken in the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia in 1987 (I think). This photo shows one of DeKalb County's old thunderbolts. The siren was at Fire Station #12 (City of Atlanta), which is at DeKalb Avenue and Candler St. All that is left today is a bare pole out in front of the fire station.:

A Totally Random Model 5™ I stumbled across a while back at the fire station in Bohannon, VA. I wonder what the pulley setups are for.

Those are for hoisting up the fire hoses after use to let them dry and air out before stowing them away again.

@murrfarms I'm pretty sure that's the location. These were behind a jehovas witness building.
I did a quick hunt in Sturgis SD to see if the downtown thunderbolt was still up and indeed the 1003A was up and had been outfitted with a new ASC radio, along with their 2/3t22, unfortunately my pics were accidentally deleted. A SD-10 in Rapid City had a similar box mounted by its RCM. I'm assuming a lot of the older sirens in the pennington/meade county stretch along I-90 had that upgrade due to a large amount of New ASC T-something's that were installed in the area.

I went through the area on a cross-country road trip in early October and visited both Sturgis and nearly the entire Pennington County system...and yes, most of the sirens in both have ASC radios on them, with the possible exception of the Model 2 at Sturgis' main fire station, which had no boxes outside at all. I'd be very curious to see if Piedmont's 3T22 is still used for anything...it's kind of redundant with a T-128 a block away.

Beyond radios, Pennington County's ASC purchases consist of four fresh E-Classes - two in Hill City, one basically next door to Wall Drug, and one on the south side of Rapid City proper. Otherwise though, for those who aren't familiar with the area, it's still a gob-smacking mishmash of Federal, ACA, and Whelen, original controllers and all. I'm amazed nobody's filmed there yet...and I may remedy that next time I come through.

On-topic, here's a random Mod 4016 I spotted on the edge of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown a while back. This guy seems to have replaced an omni Whelen within the last 4-5 years.

@VAsirens, I know of two whelens on the south side of Rapid City. The only e-class I've seen is in an area called harmony hills or something that like. That 3t22 in piedmonte still had an antenna attached to the pole. It could be used as a fire siren.

In Belle Fourche South Dakota, on a water tank way off in the south east side of the city, I noticed something on top of the tank that looked to have two rows of horns on it, I'll look into it later. I know of a model 5, and two mods in that town. On my way back home, I tried to get a picture of Hemingford Nebraskas 2/3t22, unfortunately it was dark when I rolled into town.

If someone knows of a good site or app I can use with my android phone so I can post pictures that aren't sideways and would let me know I'd appreciate it! I don't have a computer at home.
So enough of my rambling, here's a few pictures I took today.

I found this old federal in downtown Bridgeport Nebraska this afternoon. The disconnect next to it is still on, but I doubt it's still in service due to a screamer with a new radio on it a few blocks away.

In between Belle Fourche South Dakota and Alzada Montana, Halliburton has a bentonite mine. Two of the three plants have had new sentry sirens installed. This was the middle plant. I suspect all three have one, but I've only seen two. Update, on the plant to the east, I saw an SD-10 on the roof, blended in well. Couldn't get a good photo of it.

I noticed this in a George Takei post on facebook earlier, to the right of the water tower you can see a thunderbolt. Not my photo, thought some of you might enjoy this.

So, this weekend I went camping with Boy Scouts, and the campsite we went to had this neat little beauty. I know it works because last year, during summer camp, they used for a fire drill. I plan to get a video this summer, if the weather permits of course. Well, here they are:
