I am happy to report that as of Sunday morning 11/25/07, the siren mentioned by Charles (#141) IS STILL THERE!

It is easy to miss, especially when traveling east on Sunset Blvd.

I think LA may have lost another 500T recently

I drove along Sunset Blvd from PCH to Westwood on Tuesday evening, and I was UNABLE to spot the Paul Revere Middle School 500T. It stood along Sunset just east of Mandeville Cyn. Rd. on the edge of the Paul Revere Middle School football field, and there is a fairly thick stand of trees there as well. I usually see it while driving by, so it's unlikely that I missed it although it may be obscured in the trees. I was in a hurry and was unable to get a second drive-by.

I don't get down that way very often, so if anybody else is there sooner, please take a look. If it's gone, I hope it didn't get scrapped.

gas station if I remember Correctly ? the other way to the west across the street from Palisades High school on Sunset Bl.
was a Fed 500-t also Long Gone now.

Yes, I did see the one at Barrington today too. (#142)

Yes there is! The modification cost $20,000, certainly making it the most expensive siren in the city. I guess someone felt they better put it somewhere rather than scrap it out when construction displaced it.

I took some pictures of it in it's new home a while back, and just got around to posting them tonight.

The 500T has a rather shallow projector, while the 500AT has a deep projector, making it look like a flashlight.

None of the City of Los Angeles sirens are operational. Up until recently, only two of the remaining ones had the power lines still connected (#206 & #179). Since I had noted that on my web site, #206 has been disconnectd! Maybe someone at the City is looking at my website? See http://wirechief.com/sirens/206.htm for proof!

The "Daffodil" Siren has a rather interesting storey behind it. I have links to some articles describing the "Metamorphosis" of this one.... I guess if you call it "art" the $20,000 it cost sounds like a bargain? NOT!
