Weaverville diaphone

Sun Apr 01, 2007 10:56 pm

Check out this weird diaphone from Weaverville, California. I have never heard one quite like this. It must be operating on low pressure, or maybe there is something inside the piston, because it sounds obscene. My friend recorded it for me and he was about a quarter mile away. The siren, which I believe is a Darley, is on another building closer to his apartment where he recorded this noon test.

Hahaha! The Diaphone needs a few Rolaids...it sounds sick. Someone needs to fix (or refill) the air tank.
If your siren is a-failin'
Chances are that it's a Whelen
And if it's just about to die
Then it must be an ATI

The recording sounds like a short fart, mostly! There's a nice-sounding Diaphone!

I think that the piston inside that Diaphone is not reciprocating fast enough.

For real, or April Fool's joke?

Wish we could hear the horn by itself.

I can't even hear the diaphone, I can only hear the weird siren.

It's April 2, so it's time to come clean. Weaverville does indeed have a diaphone and a 12 port siren. However, I don't know anybody there and neither of these sounds came from Weaverville. The siren is an Erick Fire Siren I recorded in West Point, Nebraska. As for the "diaphone," let's just say that it wasn't me. It's been a long time since the "sheep diaphone." April fools!
