Robert, have you been in a hole for the past decade? EQ is an electronically generated siren. Much less current draw than Q, that's why a lot of departments are switching. It really sounds like a Q from far away or with a large echo, doesn't it?
Anyways, a lot of departments use an EQ or Q2B with a powercall, but only on firetrucks. I've never seen it on an ambulance.
You'll laugh.
In the distance I heard Aurora FD engine responding.
Suddenly, their Q instantly silenced.
They must have hit something, instantly stopping/destroying their bumper-mounted Q.
It was an eQ, which I never knew existed. They had switched it off in mid wail.
Our 200 watt Unitrol into 2 TS100 speakers is louder than the eQ, apparently because the square eQ speaker box is not as efficient as the TS100 exponential horns. Also the eQ has much grill covering the box opening, which I think is another impediment.
What is a Powercall?
I oppose two sirens. Needless wasted expense. One is enough.
I drove an ambulance which had a Q and Unitrol 200 watt into two
chrome CP100s. (the best speakers ever made) Both sirens sounding was no better than one.
BUT, the CPs at the low frequency of wail projected sound farther ahead than the Q. At low frequency, the Q was not as loud as at high RPM.
