I believe it says "HIGHLANDS" My mom lived in Atlanta her whole life, and she said it looked similar to that building. She even told me about hearing that MD go off in 1970, she said "It was louder than the Railyard".

To me, that sign says "Noland", which is a plumbing company.

After a closer look it does say Noland.

Unknown building, Gas-powered MD mounted on corner

That was the "Noland" building in Atlanta. I recall seeing that siren a number of times.

Atlanta had a number of the MDs in various locations. The one atop Hurt Bldg. downtown was nicknamed "Big Myrtle." It was painted red. Back in the early 70s I took summer classes at GA State Univ; saw "Big Myrtle" as I walked from the bus stop to the school.

There was also a MD atop a building on Peachtree farther out from downtown. The Coach & 6 restaurant was located in this building.

I do recall seeing the Tbolt at Little 5 Points. There was another one farther out Roswell Rd; N of its intersection with Abernathy.

Atlanta also had Model 5s in various locations throughout the city. There were also SD-10s at fire stations on Monroe Dr.(near I-85 exit) and one at a fire station off Mt. Paran Rd.

The building is long gone.

It may have been razed before I moved away from the Atlanta area in 1989.

I found a postcard of Atlanta from 1970. It shows the Noland Building MD. I circled it in black so it can be seen easier.

EDIT: A couple more Noland MD pics.

(1965) You can clearly see the MD.

(1967) You can see the siren in front of a building.

I find it odd that most of the images have MD's in them and only one has a Thunderbolt...
