I wouldn't allow it in my room without a rubber mattress cover on the bed.

I don't know, but if I ever have mouse trouble, I'm setting all my alarm devices to sound at 2:00 AM!

As far as Sound-Sensitive Sphincter Seal Syndrome solutions, I have to trot this photo out again. It is important to be at the right place at the right time. Just imagine what it does to the seagulls!

It wouldn't be hard to have a fire alarm build up over three seconds or so to reduce the startle factor, and three seconds is not going to matter. NFPA 16 might have to be amended slightly.

When I lived in our former building, one of the worst things that could have happened to me at night was hearing the fire-alarms go off. Our fire-alarms, with the exception of one unit, on the sixth floor, are all Edwards bells, about twelve inches in diameter. Anyway, the alarms are extremely chilling when they activate at night, especially with the fact that me getting down from the fifth floor takes time. I just want an alarm that is gentler at the start-up.

Both actions are a part of the fight/flight system.
Smell and sight of waste is more effective at distracting and repelling an attack.
It is an excellent efficient defense function of the nervous system.
Animals and humans do it.

Urine for a big surprise:
Tasered people usually do NOT urinate!
The bladder sphincter muscles contract.
But one woman was an exception.

What happened after that? Did they give her a change of clothes?

The only one I know of that does a ramp-up is the Firex 5000 smoke detector. Some panels/NAs can be set so that the strobe flashes 2 or 3 times before the horn kicks in.

Wierd, my system is totally opposite. Mine kicks the horn on for about 1 second and then does regular Code-3.

Now I have seen panels that do it in reverse, horns stop and strobes keep flashing.
