Does anyone know what they sound like? I know Whelen Omnis replaced them... Ive seen the Whelens. Ive also seen Thunderbolt-looking things... Does anyone know what those are?
There is no sound recordings of them but people that got to hear them said that they were very low pitched. There were also STL-10s in the system ,the Toshibas were also Pnuematic like the old german pneumatic air raid sirens and not chopper driven. The reason why they got replaced is because the government made a law for 2006 saying that all power plants must be replaced with sirens that have battery backup even if old system is working properly. So that must explain why they were replaced. SONGS employees might know what happened to them after they were removed and replaced.

So basically, from what I can gather, it is a Japanese/American take on the Hoermann F71 / HLS series?
I would think since they were pneumatic like the HLS sirens.

I'm taking a tour of SONGS in November ,so I'll ask about the Toshibas and where they went. I also ask if they have any pictures or recordings of them.

On the news back in 2014 it showed something about SONGS sirens being tested ,and I saw a shot of an STL-10. Its weird if they kept this with the Whelens since about 20 STL-10s were in the old system ,but why would they of kept one when the law states that sirens at power plants need to have battery backup ,if there is a STL-10 kept from the old system ,there might be just one Toshiba/Mystery octagon siren left somewhere at one of the sights ,maybe unmarked.

As was noted six years ago, the former SONGS sirens were built in California by a plant engineer. They were not made by Toshiba nor do they resemble Toshiba sirens, which are found only in Japan and have either three or six projectors.

It's highly possible that this here STL is indeed still on the system, given the presence of a 1003 at the plant itself...
There could be one last Toshiba lurking. It's worth a shot, in my opinion...

Yeah I know there just Mystery octagon sirens ,Good news ,I found the designer by the name of John G Powell ,He told me he hasn't work there since like 2003 ,but he told me that he doesn't know where they went but he told me that he would call me again and tell me about how they worked (which I think there pneumatic like the old German air raid sirens) and If he has any lost audio or videos of the sirens going off. Also I will be taking a tour of SONGS in November and I will ask employees there if they know where they went ,hopefully not scraped because I'll be pretty angry lol.

That STL was replaced by a white WPS-2806. Besides the green 2750 in Cannon Beach, OR that longs for a nice long vacation to Hawaii, it's the only Whelen omni that I know of that isn't black, at least intentionally anyway on account of the really faded 2700 series sirens out there. I'm under assumption that the white ones in the system are used for voice while the others are "tone only."

Well that sucks ,I thought It was located somewhere else ,but I guess the palm trees gave it away. I found the picture here: http://www.cbs8.com/clip/10691937/final ... san-onofre It pops up at 19 seconds. And they said its they final test. Now the city now controls them and there now used for tsunamis.

Just a quick tip: maybe don't post his number... I know I wouldn't want mine posted on some website... okay back OT, the whelen set up there seems like a pretty interesting one too though! wonder what series of drivers they have in them...
