That Thunderbolt is no longer there, it used to sit up there rusting away (rather quickly too) on top of a county building across from Madison Square. The T-bolt quit sometime in either the late 90s or early 2000s according to Chatham County EMA, and I guess they finally found someone to remove it from its perch. It was an old Series A1 1000A (not a "jailbar"), and I actually got to hear it once as a kid while we were on River Street, which is also when I found out about the Model 2 next to the river by surprise.

On a side note, they have been slowly replacing a lot of the old sirens in Savannah and the rest of the county over the past few years with Whelen Vortexes, but their main goal has been to add new ones to fill in the existing coverage gaps first. They still have a couple of 2T22s, a few STH-10s (most on buildings), and at least that one Model 2 next to Moran Towing.

Damn! I was going to savannah labor day weekend, And i wanted to see that siren. On the other hand, I've never seen the 2T22s, Where are they? I've seen the STH-10s and the Model 2 before.

If I remember right, the only one you can really get up close to is the one behind Pulaski Elementary School at Montgomery St & W Derenne Ave. If you get a chance to go see it, see if you notice anything odd about that one.

There's also a really low-mounted Vortex next to a lift station on Downing Avenue, if you want to see that. It's every bit of like 15-20ft off the ground. See here: http://bit.ly/nuoCK0

Here's the best view of it that I can find on street view: http://bit.ly/oCKOTU

I'm beginning to suspect that siren may not be there any longer, because if you go out to satellite view and look where it should be, there appears to now be just a bare pole there. Chatham County may have finally gotten around to replacing every last one of the old CD sirens they had, because the more I look for ones I've seen in the past, the more I find evidence of them no longer being in place.

Just in case, here's some pictures I took a few years ago of the 2T22 at Pulaski Elementary:

I don't see anything really "odd" about that 2T22.
