(Hockey) does this sound like a 2T?

Sun May 10, 2009 3:48 pm

was poking through some old NHL videos on youtube last night and came across this one at Nassau Coliseum:

at about 0:20 in you can hear a siren running; assuming it wasn't a recording, does it sound like a 2T?

Sounds exactly like a 2T-120 the slow wind up gives it away, very interesting!

That's not a 2T. It sounds like two sirens running together to me. The sirens sound in a perfect 4th once they get going, and a 2T sounds in a major 3rd. In the wind-down, you can hear two distinct rotors run by two different motors.

After a close..err..listen, you are right. I can tell that there is two separate sirens..but it does sound devilishly close to a 2T. Odd, I wonder what siren make/models they are?

I doubt anyone knows. I'm sure those sirens are long gone.

I wish more teams would go with sirens. They all have horns. The Capitals have some wimpy siren with their horn.
A Thunderbolt chopper and horn boosted with a small blower would be cool as a goal horn!

The Vancouver Canucks have a retrofitted STH-10 in their stadium, GM Place.

By retrofitted I mean there were solenoids and a brake added to it to make it wind down faster and quieter.

Do they offer free earplugs as you walk into the stadium?

Think I found what you are talking about, but it doesn't sound like an STH-10, sounds more like a Model 2.

That's an old recording of a siren none of us could ever figure out. Some think its a single tone Thunderbolt and some think it's a Model 2. I never thought about it being a lower toned STH10, though.
