ASC OM-120

Fri Apr 25, 2008 6:23 am

Recoded during the Simulated tornado warning I was trying to get both sirens. The OM-120 was in Town of Brookfield and across the street there is a T-128 in The city of Waukesha. The T-128 did not go off due to a problem you can hear the others in Waukesha Going off in the back ground before the OM-120 goes off.

Not a good day to video tape very cloudy and Very windy Had to keep holding the tripod to keep it from blowing over. I must say the OM-120 did sound good.

Why I did not go to Prairie Du Sac to get the Decot?
Unknown if the test would have been done due to rain in the forecast
GAS IS 3.80 a gallon IT would cost 40.00 for the trip

Great video! Once the OM-120 starts, the wind is almost completely drowned out. I love those T-128's at the beginning.

We used to have a VFD siren in Louisville on Terry Road that sounded almost just like this OM-120. I can't remember if it rotated or not. This is not the same siren in my "Mystery Single Tone Rotating Siren" thread. The mystery siren was located at PRP VFD #1 on Kerrick Lane, really close to where the low pitch tan Thunderbolt is.

Did ACA or ASC make a rotating version of the OM-120, and if so, when was it made?

Yes, the rotating version of the OM-120 was none other than the RM-127, which use both the same rotor & motor.

Great recording, but I have never heard of the OM-120. Is there a closeup photo of it somewhere?

It's basically your standard Banshee. Some of the later ones had battery back up. :) They might still be made today.....

All of the RM-127's I've heard are 8 port sirens, and they sound at a lower pitch than this one. In fact, their pitch is the same as a lot of Whelens. This siren appears to have either a nine or ten port rotor. Could the rotating version of this siren have been the RM-130? The RM-130 has a nine port rotor, and it sounds at about the same pitch as this OM-120.

Yeah, the RM-127 was the AC version of this siren. The DC version spins faster and is louder. Thus RM-130. We've got one in eden prairie.
