Whelen Siren Failures and Malfunctions

The low voltage cutoff is only a feature of the newer units. You can also find examples of ASC electronic sirens exhibiting sputtering with no cut-off as ASC sirens still, to my understanding, do not have a low voltage cut off feature (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWO6LjtyoH4).

Whelen supposedly had low-battery cutoff starting on the controllers after the WS-1000, ("pre-864") according to the numerous manuals I have. whether it actually works, after 30+ years I am unsure.

. A speaker would not output (but still itself be fine) should an amplifier fail but, again, all amps won't fail all at the same time. A total failure is more likely than not going to be power-related.

Unless you're ATI, in which case there are only one or two amps in the controller... which means one dying will kill either half or the entire siren until it's replaced, depending on if it's an HPSS-16 or HPSS-32.

Umatilla in Oregon had a lot of failures with it's Whelen system during 1994-2001. Post-2001, they had some ghost-activations but that's about it.
