"Canadian" Federal sirens

Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:48 pm

I've been doing a lot of siren mapping in eastern Canada recently, and as I've been doing so, I noticed something a bit peculiar. Seemingly exclusive to Quebec and the surrounding region, there is a version of what I think is a Federal/Fedelcode C3 1/2 with a custom housing that I've been calling "Canadian Model 5s". The housing has a taller, steeper rainshield and a much larger skirt than most C3 1/2s, and what I'm guessing is that this was to help them survive harsh Canadian winters. That doesn't explain why they're only found in eastern Canada and not the whole country, however. Their specifications are unknown, and for all I know these might not even be Federal.

Another interesting housing style I've seen exclusively in Quebec is this variant that has a much smaller skirt, and occasionally has the motor exposed for some reason. I can't for the life of me figure out why they'd do that. Kinda reminds me of a thin Siro-Drone.

Recently I heard someone mention something about CLM having sirens that look like the Model 2 and 5. Not sure how accurate, but could this be it?

I don't think so with these, these do look like Federal products to me. If it was CLM, it still doesn't quite explain why they're only found in Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

The last picture is definitely a Federal Signal model 5/7. Not so sure about the other ones. In a way, the other pictures look like they could be some sort of H.O.R. Siro Drone siren.

I'm going to put my input on this, and I'm theorizing that these may not even be Federal at all. This could potentially have been made from a company local to the general Quebec area, explaining why they are currently only known to exist in the surrounding area.
Then again, what do I know?

My thoughts exactly. Those, including the last one to me, look very similar to other HOR Siro-Drones that have been spotted around the US. it would not shock me at all if a few made it to Canada.
