Australian Siren

Went out yesterday and got a few pictures of this siren somewhat nearby me. Not sure what type it is, but these make up the large majority of sirens in Australia. It looks nearly identical to a GCS siren, just a little taller and with holes in the housing.

Hey, we actually had speculations that it could be GCS, but then we found a streetview archive of this siren (not exact, same model) and the housing had rusted off, leading to it being removed, then it looked like a Model 2. Currently we think it's some Aussie version of a model 2. To answer your second question, I have not heard any go off, and haven't been able to find any on YouTube or similar sites. That puts me in the mindset of a Darley. Darley had federal signal (as well as sentry) siren clones. So it could be one of those. Darley cloned smaller federal signal sirens, (models 2,3,5 possibly 7 and STH10) and a sentry 3V8. They did have their own champion model, but your siren looks like a Darley badged federal.

Yeah, that could very much be a possibility. These sirens are really old, so it could very much be a Darley siren. Now I guess more information hunting.

Not going to lie, this is pretty interesting.

The chopper/stator assembly seems flattened and not as tall as a Model 2, but the legs are pretty much identical.

Yes, has had me and the others who work on the Australian siren map confused for a very long time. They are all labeled as GCS-Like on the map, as we really do not have any clue. The housing is definitely weird for sure.

Darley did not clone sirens they contracted with Federal or Sentry or ACA and had them made or got the parts from them and assembled them with there names on them

Yes, thank you for this correction. "Clones" implies that it was an illegal plagiarism job, but in fact Darley bought the siren parts from the original manufacturers, or was a dealer for the original manufacturers, as they still are today with Sentry sirens (but they no longer change the branding). A 3rd-party dealer doesn't have to keep the original branding once the product has been paid for. A food manufacturer or restaurant doesn't have to display the brand names of all the ingredients in their foods.

Understood. Would rebadged be a better term? (I have a "Mazda B3000 but it's identical to a Ford ranger with the 3.0L vulcan, so it's a rebadged truck.)
