Anyone familiar with Sirens in the State of Maine?

Mon Apr 02, 2018 2:40 am

It seems to me like I'm the only siren enthusiast here in this rural state. Does anyone else know anything about this area in regards to sirens? Perhaps this could be another "State Siren Discussion" post. Perhaps some of you could help me out in identifying locations as i am thinking about making a siren map for the State of Maine.

Thanks!
And happy Easter!

I know of several sirens in Maine, but it seems to me that there are more Diaphones/air horns than sirens there.

-STH-10 in Wiscasset: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.0020056 ... 312!8i6656
-Model 5/7 in Rockport: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Rockp ... 69.0766561
-Sterling M-10 in West Rockport: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.1820202 ... 312!8i6656
-Model 2 in Lincolnville: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.282382, ... 312!8i6656
-STH-10 in Vinalhaven: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Vinal ... 68.8360829
-Model 5 in Eliot: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Eliot ... 70.7906064

There are others too. Lilly Dane would be the one to ask about more ME sirens, as that is closer to her neck of the woods. Happy Easter to you as well!

OMG: in all of the years I've been going to Camden (my whole life) I had NO idea about the Model 5! You learn something new everyday. Will have to check it out next time I go.

I'm in the Lewiston/Auburn area and there used to be several SD10 s in the cities. From my own searches there appears to be just one left standing in Lewiston. I acquired the last one in Auburn ( I think) last summer. This required a lot of phone calls, emails, and paperwork. A long hot day in July, all my pipe staging, and hoisting equipment- and we had a 550 lb SD-10 in the shop. We sounded Dave Bowens SD5 on top of his garage in Canton (old fire station) last summer also. A two second wind up cause more commotion than you would think! Love to talk all about it and have pics of the project too. Shoot me an email to [email protected] Thanks, Rich

I'll try to post pics of the SD10 rescue in Auburn, ME. Also there is a siren that I have yet to identify atop the fire station in Wayne. There seems to be one in the town of Magalloway I may recall seeing last summer. It's a sickness once you start looking for these you know....
