Massive ATI Replacement in Frisco, TX

Mon Sep 11, 2017 3:47 pm

Hello all,
I've just got news that the city of Frisco should be removing their ATI HPSS 32s in a few months. After talking to Jason, who is the emergency management director, he said they should be due for replacement in one or two months, and be replaced with Whelen WPS 2910s. He said they aren't very good, so they are replacing them with the better 2910s! All 9 will be up for sale.

Well thank god. Bout time they did something about those turds.
Wonder what they had before the ATIs, does anyone know?

Frisco always had a system of Whelens. I think the ATIs were gap fillers as the city grew. Recently they've gone back to Whelens.

Yes, the Whelens came first and the city augmented them with those throw-away units. Surprisingly the tone on them was pretty good.... Not loud, but didn't sound horrible. https://youtu.be/qjRqCqFHNG0?t=53s

Lol. I talked to the EMA director and I told him "well yea I can see why you are replacing them" he laughed said the ATI's are by far the hardest sirens to work with, and aren't the best sirens to begin with. He said they've had them for 20 something years. Maybe he was just trying to find a way to excuse their down qualities, because I'd heard that these were installed like 10-15 years ago. Still, ATIs are OK sirens, at least they do their job decently.

The 2910 is a far better siren for a community. They're just friggin loud and carry very well over a decent span of territory. I always thought the HPSS32 is a good unit for small applications such as an industrial area or a golf course or a small college campus where only one or two units are needed and clear intelligible voice is a must. That to me is where they may make economic sense.

ATIs are garbage, and they always will be.

Is that really necessary? Please refrain from any type of criticism of sirens.

He was just stating his opinion. I honestly see nothing wrong with that.

In the rules, it does say to try not to bash siren companies, because this page is trying to act professional. Another reason is so we wont stir up unwanted drama with other companies, because some EMA directors and staff of siren companies follow this page.
