No, the solenoids are on a different circuit and wouldn't have anything to do with the way the siren is sounding. It just needs some tlc.

Personally, I'd like to see them give me a shot at restoring her for them. Probably be the best route instead of them running her till she keels over from a burned out motor then they have to buy a new siren.

what do you mean, "turn the commutator"?
Exactly what it sounds like: put the rotor in a lathe, turn a little of the copper off of the commutator and give it a new contact surface for the motor brushes so it doesn't eat them up.
Ich spreche nicht Deutsch...doh!

I think Siren Central still carries xt22 motor parts. I think a new motor is $600.

Hahaha, try close to $5,000 for a new single phase one.

It's a 240v 3 phase. The siren has it's own dedicated power pole and transformer. The only thing really in need of replacement would be the motor and solenoids. Everything else just needs sand blasted, primed, painted and clear-coated.

Finally dawned on me while I was approaching Lowe's that it was close to test time, so I went and picked out a spot in the parking lot and recorded with my Kodak DX7590
What causes the slight rise after the siren reaches peak rpm?
From listening, I obtained the timing: 9 seconds on and 6 seconds off. Thanks, Fox,

Jason, we were offered a refurbished 2t22B motor for $957.
Can one even find a new dual-shaft motor?

Ok guys, I finally saw Eddie, the chief, today. And I asked him if they EVER kept any records of maintenance to their sirens, he said no. And then I told him that they were probably not cleaning between contacts on the commutator, which again, probably why their constantly putting in brushes once every year. And I told him that there was possibly a way to get replacement Solenoids as well.

Anyway. Today is Tuesday, so I'm gonna run on down to Station 1 and catch their Sterling in action. To save space, check the first post later on for the new link.

IF the siren is 3 phase It does not have brushes only single phase motors do.
