Denton, TX Sirens

Mon Jun 19, 2017 5:12 pm

So I was driving through Denton last weekend when I stumbled upon what looked like an unmistakable Thunderbolt setup. It's out front of Fire Station #4. I've scoured the forum for Denton siren info and haven't found anything about any Thunderbolts in Denton proper, but take a look at this setup and tell me what y'all think.

Looks a whole lot like an old Thunderbolt setup re-purposed as an utility pole.

The piping almost looks like re-purposed blower piping, though I may be getting ahead of myself. Once you start drawing conclusions it doesn't stop.

Seems like a pretty classic T-bolt setup. Additionally, Fort Worth (30 miles south) used this platform setup exclusively.
Here's an example:

It's right outside an old fire station so I don't know what else it could be. What do y'all think? Is it possible they had at least one Thunderbolt?
My girlfriend does not understand this at all. Actually I really don't either.

I'd say it's very likely, especially when you consider the fact that there's a 3t22 at the State School.
I could probably dig up some old photos that would tell us more.

EDIT: historical street view coughed this up.

That's most definitely a former electrical transformer site. The crossarm at the top of the pole is the same as in the historical imagery. The holes in the platform are also a giveaway as well that betrays ex-thunderbolt.

That's what I suspected originally, it was an electrical transformer platform. But as you can see in Scottsbluff, it goes either way. ;)

Jared with the clutch street view find! My hopes and dreams are dashed against the rocks but your sleuthing skills are impressive nonetheless.

Hah, thanks. I still think it's very possible that they did, in fact, have at least a few Thunderbolts in their CD system...
