Sick Thunderbolt 1000 in Blair, NE

Thu Aug 07, 2014 5:31 pm

Yesterday I decided to go to Blair and see how one of their Thunderbolts are doing. The one I went do isnt doing so well now. Here is today's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WtM3CWDrYU:

The wind up sounds interesting, you can hear how badly it fluctuates, its going down hill. Here is a video from 2010 of the same siren: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfnGdJ2-Cy0

And before the "siren expert kids" come in to state the obvious. Yes, it needs new bearings, along with brushes and rings checked.

Actually it doesn't sound too bad compared to thunderbolts I have seen.

As Cruz said, it sounds alot better than some of the other thunderbolts out there, such as the former Shawnee, KS 1000, the former O'Fallon, IL 1000, and the (former?) Wichita, KS 1000. How long ago did it start to slip?

Blue valley should have taken the chopper out of this thing and replaced it. I cannot even imagine how hard that chopper was working to spin that thing:

I have to ask... You do know that some people throw thunderbolts out because they look for parts specifically to the thunderbolt (Which they "Don't make anymore..." Why would FS tell them that the model 2 is practically the same siren when they could suck a bunch more money out of them to replace the thunderbolt.)

I guess instead of a cheap, easy fix, Federal is looking for only one thing in its sights...$$$

A set of bearings once every 30 years wouldn't hurt things...

I think I've seen that one, My aunt and uncle (on my mom's side) lived there for many years. I've also seen a Darley Champion and some T-Bolts from Fort Calhoun's system.
