What's the difference between a Model D and a Model L?

Wed Jun 11, 2014 3:03 am

...are the dimensions and Db rating the same? Is one higher pitched? Also I can't find any history on the Model D. Can anyone provide any insight?

A difference between a Model D and a Model L are the front cones/horns at the front of the chopper, outer horns, and the pitch. The Model Ds are discontinued. They start making the Model Ds in the 1930s-1970s. The Model Ls are still being made today. They start making the Model Ls in 1946. The Db ratings on a Model D and Model L may be the same. I may be wrong. I actually own 3 Model Ds.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info! It was very helpful! I'm looking to get an D or an L. Do you know which is lower in pitch? Also which is bigger?

The L was a heavier duty version of the D. Just like the J was a heavy duty version of the A.

A Model D and a Model L are the same size but I am not sure if they weigh the same. A Model D is a little bit low pitched.

If these are eight port sirens, they should have the same pitch. The L and the D in these videos have the same pitch.
