Okay, I understand double posting is a shameful thing to do. Hear me out though, I just realized how far behind I am with sharing with you guys my siren photos, so here's the deal. I'm going to cram as many as I can in this single reply and wait 4 hours and do it again.

These are in Danville, IL. I'm not too good with Whelens, but these are Vortex sirens, correct? I didn't siren hunt these, just snapped the photos as we drove by hunting down abandoned railroad tracks.

Second siren:

Third siren:

I made a second trip to Rantoul, IL to find that old Carter/Gents/etc. siren that was by the old fire department:

Old FS Model 5/7 on an old radar tower:

What?! They tore down the water tower the old siren was on!?!:

Did anyone get any pictures of what was on top of the old water tower? Was I just not seeing things or was there even a siren on it?

Then you have Beecher, IL with a very clean Model 5 or 7:

Sorry if I posted this already, but Aroma Park, IL's Model 5/7:

Good sirens up here in Essex, IL:

Bonfield, IL FS 2001 SRN?(B):

Whoa; Irwin, IL has an Eclipse 8:

Well that should be PLENTY for now. I'm going to comb through my pictures and these posts to see if I can't find any I haven't shared yet.

Please do correct me on my information, I'm rusting up on my siren-speak and could use some WD-40. :)

Cheers,
Joshua

The sirens in Danville are Vortex sirens. Any finback Whelen is a vortex. You can tell from 4004's and Vortex's by looking at the siren itself; Many 4004's have an "X" on the screen, Vortex siren screens go in a little. Also a 4004 has a larger cylinder sticking out of it and has a Type ll cabinet, which voice sirens use since the Vortex can't do voice.

All of the newer 4004s have the screens going in though, just like the Vortex.

Ah, Thanks for the correction. I'm just going to say "some' 4004s have outer screens. :P

Just out of curiosity, where are those sirens located in Danville? I was there for a concert a couple years ago but didn't see any sirens. Granted, I didn't have a lot of time to explore (arrived at 5pm, checked into the hotel, drove by the lake and made a Wal-Mart run in the hour before the doors opened for the concert, then left at 9am the next day after driving around downtown briefly), but I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see any.
