Figure I would do an update for all of those who are still interested. I had all siren motors looked over and cleaned out last year. The siren head has the green light to go. It needs some more cleaning, and maybe a coat of paint or two. Plus some stickers.
Rotator still needs cleaned:
So does this, even after an hour of scrubbing with mean green.
The blower is where things get very tricky. As I dug in further and further into the controls I had figured out that lightning struck the telephone relay, and had caused it to malfunction. This, in turn caused the motor starter to go on and off repeatedly, which is a big no no for big motor starters. After it was all said and done I ended up with a fried telephone relay, pitted out contactor, and busted flasher. Or, a very expensive fix.
Earlier this year I got new contacts for the motor starter and I had my local motor guy put them in. He's also figuring out what goes to what, and if it still works. You'll get what I mean in the photo below. I took it there in June, and it's been there since. I am really hoping to get it home before Christmas so I can finally finish it, but chances of that are looking slim to none right now.
Other than that I am still looking for a flasher. There is a place nearby that sells new and old Cutler Hammer stuff so I am going to check there next weekend for one. Plans are to finish both the blower and siren head, clean them both, throw a coat of paint on and then finally link them together on it's own little personal trailer.
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.
