West Point Area Sirens

Mon Oct 24, 2011 1:19 am

I went up to West Point, New York this weekend to visit the post and I was not expecting to find any sirens at all in the area other then the odd ones at a few fire stations. However while on the Palisades Parkway I saw a P-10 on a pole next to an ATI. That's about when it hit me that West Point is near Indian Point Nuclear Generating Station. I was mostly here for vacation so I didn't get to snap too many pictures but I thought you would like to see these. The pictures also are not the greatest because most were taken while we were driving

P-10 (or a P-15) and a ATI located right outside of the West Point Visitors center/museum. Part of the Indian Point System

STH-10 also outside of the visitors center. I had to enhance this image because the picture turned out very dark

I did not have a chance to take out my camera for a few of the sirens I saw and there was one on the post itself that I didn't get a very good picture of.

P-10 and an ATI in the town of Garrison
Federal Signal Model 5 or 7 on top of a building in West Point (I have a picture but its pretty bad. Let me know if you want to see it)
P-10 and an ATI in an unknown location on the way to West Point

This is my first post on these forums so I hope you like these. Next time I head out to West Point I'll try to take some pictures of the ones I missed and hopefully get a few more.

Ever been to western Nebraska? There are plenty of mountains. Might not be like what you would see in Colorado or Wyoming, but they are still mountains. :P

I saw the same setups on the outskirts of West Point Academy.
I've got a few not-so-great pics on the ID thread.

Having grown up in the Cascades, that small hill behind the church in West Point is not a mountain. However, there are hills like that in many parts of Nebraska, including the areas near the Missouri River north of Omaha.

I live in Rockland county and I'm very familiar with the HPSS32s, I hear them every few months as part of the quarterly test of Indian points Nuclear warning sirens. I made a map of all the sirens I know of: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... 9QEDNSN6ag

Isn't that a Single Tone P-15? Not a P-10?

Yes. Pretty funny how the ATI's are supposed to be a "comparable" replacement to them.
